I just returned from Europe which was why you have not heard from me...my schedule of travel and meetings precluded me from opportunities to blog..but I promise to resume my consistency now!
During the trip I experienced what I call a "watershed moment" in the life of our company. You all know that my focus in on building a lasting long term business. It is the fundamental theme of all that I teach. In my new book "The Process" (which I am happy to say has been better recieved than I could ever have imagined world-wide...very cool:-) the subtitle is "the fun and easy way to build an income stream for life" because I don't believe in the short term, hype, get rich fast garbage that is inundating the market place. I believe in working in a company that you can believe in and helping others through a simple caring process, until you have SERVED so many other people that all your future needs are met....this is my way...and it's fun...and it works!
Anyway, every legitimate company with the right values, and who brings value to the market and satisfies needs, goes through different eras in their evolution. These are marked by a beginning of some sort, or what I call a watershed moment. You have to be in a company for the long haul, for this to be meaningful for you. Most people don't have the experience, industry knowledge, or a big enough view of the whole picture to appreciate these moments when they happen...in other words, most people aren't able to pull their mind away from the tree in front of them to see what is taking place in the forest.
Having been in the bsuiness for 21 years, as a builder of the business and a student of industry, I have the luxury sometimes of being able to see the forest very clearly. This certainly helps me in coaching and mentoring others more frequently than it matters in the way that I am speaking of now.
Our company this past Saturday had a watershed moment. A moment that clearly marked a new era of it's evolution. Most people who were present were excited about the new things available to them to help them build their business...in other words they were excited that this might make an impact with the next trees they are planting. They might sense there is more, but they don't have a deep enough foundation of understanding to quite know what it is. However, for those with the proper perspective that they are building something for life, this will be a moment they will look back on in 10 years and know it was the point of a new era.
These watershed moments only come along every decade or two depending on the market place. It is a unique and wonderful place in time. It doesn't mean that the planting of the next tree is any easier, but it does mean that the environment for that tree to flourish is better. So if you are fortunate to be in a situation where the forest is becoming more fertile, then plant, plant, plant and you will be able to look back in the future and know you were in a special place and time.
