The intangible side of starting your business through developing your customer base is centered on belief.
Belief that you can accomplish a task is critical to even taking the first step. For example, if you are standing on a street corner and you don't think you can safely cross the street, you will not step off the curb. Many other things in life reflect this simple example. (think about your history and the things you now know you COULD have done, but didn't at the time...)
Your belief system about yourself, in general, is derived from your experiences and your environment. This is obviously very limited, because A) our minds tend to catalogue the negative experiences we have had in life, and bring those up every time we look at a new possibility for ourselves, and B) our environment in general tends to be negative and critical(Dealing with this in general is a topic for a future blog).
To bring this to a quick point here as it relates to growing your business...If you have never made a lot of money in your life, or you have never built a successful business in your life, then you will tend to have a limited belief that it can truly happen for you.
So while you might be enthusiastic and hopeful about what is possible in your home business, your true belief deep in your gut that you will succeed will be very small at first. Your belief in yourself in the business is very fragile. I know this feeling intimately, because I struggled with it mightily for a while.
Your business is an awesome thing that can bring you great rewards if you want it to...but think about life....what of value will not come with sacrifice, effort, and adversity? Certainly any relationship you have that is important has been full of these adjectives, as has any meaningful accomplishment.
When you have low belief in your self that something will work, as soon as it gets difficult (and if it is worth anything it will), your commitment to success will waiver and there is a great chance you will quit. This is TOO VALUABLE TO EVER QUIT!
My secret to success is I did not quit when the going got tough. Tomorrow I will explain how the product approach builds your personal belief (provided you believe in your product...which if you don't...what are you doing working with it?).
