The world is "monkey see, monkey do" not "monkey say, monkey do." The people you sponsor will learn from you based on what they observe, and then of course their people will learn from them based on what they observe from them...that is in part, learned from you.
I had a clear example of this last night. I met with someone who has terrific potential. This is the kind of person you want to work with. She was sponsored by another terrific person, who was sponsored also by a terrific person. This is the kind of thing you want...quality people (nice, honest, respectful, credible, etc.) duplicating quality people. Anyway, during our meeting I learned more about this person and her past experiences and her passions and it was clear that our business is a great fit for her. EXCEPT, that she didn't really understand this yet (she has been signed up for several months). As we spoke, I referred to a tool that would help her clearly understand what to do and how, and this is when I found out that she did not know of this tool. Her sponsor had not shared it with her.
Her sponsor is a fantastic person and caring and helpful, as well as dedicated...so I knew that this oversight was not intentional. As I thought further, I realized that her sponsor learned about the tool in a way that would de-emphasize the importance of the tool. Her sponsor's sponsor (stay with me here:-) was in a challenging time period when the tool was introduced, and did not prioritize sharing it. As a result, the tool was simply "a tool" instead of "THE teaching tool." What I was witnessing was the limitation that had occured for the person in front of me based on simple duplication. Would this tool have made a difference if introduced right away? There is no way for us to know. But we do know that it would help if the person is motivated and that it would set the course for continuing to duplicate this little thing.
You cannot demand that people duplicate what you do (well you can, and some people do, but that is not my style). You can only lead the way by example. The key for the long run is replicating things that will ensure that as your organization grows 5 and 10 and 20 layers of people away from you that the same message and the same tools and information are being passed on. That is true duplication and that leads to highly successful long lasting networks.
Do what you would want duplicated. AND pass it on.
