Once you have reached your desk and it is time to work your business, what do you do first? Do you check your emails? Do you return phone calls from messages that have been left that day? Do you call your business builders (if you have some yet) and offer support? You have lots of options as to how to spend your time. The most important thing for you to do is to use your time as efficiently as possible.
It has been said that entrepreneurs get as much done in 12 hours as an employee does in 40. I cannot remember where I saw this, but I have heard the concept more than once and having been a home business owner for 21 years, I pretty much agree with the concept. I have no way of knowing the preciseness of the time comparison, but lets just say entrepreneurs are way more productive in their time. Why? I think the easiest answer is... survival!
An entreprenuer creates their income through their efforts and the efforts of those that work with them. It is based on productivity. They have no fall back situation...they sink or they swim. Chances are good that you DO have a fall back position. You are probably, if you are like 99% of the people who start a home business, either employed right now, or have a spouse who is providing the needed cahs flow for survival.
Why am I bringing this up? Because doing your business is different than being in your business. When survival is on the line, you do what is important to survive first. There is no comfort zone...there is no choice. This is the principle that is important to adopt to use your time the most efficiently possible.
DO THE MOST IMPORTANT THING FIRST.
What is the most important thing? Approaching. Making the initial contact to let someone know you are business is the most important thing you can do and should be the first thing you do, until you reach a point of significant success (I'll discuss this in a later post). Remember, the world doesn't know what you have. They don't know you are in business. You must let them know, and a phone call is THE best way. Whatever your approach goal is for the day, this is the first thing you should do when you sit down at your desk.
But what about my return calls? My emails? We'll talk more about those next. But your approach calls are the thing you always do first under normal circumstances...you know how it's easy to understand why? Because this is the one thing, that if you will do it enough, regardless of how well you do anything else in your business, that will guarantee you reaching your goals. More tomorrow...
