When I am mentoring someone to get in shape I have them track what they put in their mouth and what they do for their workout. In this way, it is clear to them that they are doing, or not doing, what they should to achieve their goals. And guess what...the ones who track what they do are more accountable, more consistent, and naturally, they achieve much more.
I used to struggle with "employing myself." Do you know what I mean? When I had a job and worked for someone else, I clocked-in everyday whether I felt like it or not. It didn't matter how messy my house was, or how tired I was, or what other things I wanted to be doing...when I had to go to work, I went. When I started my own home business part-time...well...I didn't have quite the same approach.
It would be easy for me to let all the things in my home distract me from "clocking in" for myself....You see, no one was holding my feet to the fire...I was my boss....and I should'a fired myself many times for not showing up!!!
When it became abundantly clear to me that I would never succeed in my business unless I clocked-in regularly, I began purposefully tracking my actions every day. I did this as a way to keep myself acountable, because when I had a sheet of paper in front of me that had nothing written on it, it meant that I didn't show up to work for myself. What I did was create a simple document that had a place for tracking approaches, info out (presentations), follow ups, sponsoring, training, and customer service. Every day I used a fresh one, and at the end of the day, it was right in front of me...how many people I talked to and what was the purpose of the conversation.
Through this activity, I became much more disciplined at doing what I should do for my dream each day, and my business began to grow...looking back now, it is easy to see why...alot of times, the greater part of success in life is just showing up every day and taking a shot.
Remember, when you work for someone else, you go to work whether you feel like it or not and that is for THEIR DREAM.
Go to work everyday for yourself whether you feel like it or not, because after all...its for YOUR DREAM.
