In Mathew 9:38 Jesus was staring out at a great multitude of people in need and he said these words to his disciples, "The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few." Of course Jesus is talking about how these people are suffering because they have little hope. He is sharing that they have an endless opportunity to share the message of the Gospel to help these people be renewed.
I would never blaspheme by saying our business is this important, because helping people with their physical or financial health on earth is nothing compared to the promise of eternal life. But we can draw a parrallel here. All people are meant to live with purpose and to contribute their gifts and talents to something of meaning. How can they do this if they are knotted up with worry about money or suppressed by the ravages of poor physical health?
The harvest for us is plentiful, but the workers are few! Every where we turn there are people who need what we have. They need a way to see through the hopeless feeling of their current state of being. We have a chance to to help them live a life of abundance. All we have to do is offer it to them and let them see it! Our job is simple and there are endless opportunities for us to do good. The incredible part of this is that the more good we do, the better WE feel and the better WE do.
What a beautiful way to live and work!!! The challenge is that we have to look past our own tendency to feel bad about what we don't have, or what we don't like about our current situation. Regardless of how good we have it, and those of us in the developed nations have it incredibly good in general, we have a tendency to fall into the trap of feeling sorry for what we feel is missing instead of feeling blessed by what is present!
We must get out of ourselves and spread our message. It will help so many, and at the same time make us feel fulfilled and valuable. This cycle leads us to share more, which leads ultimately to more blessings on us. It is a perfect way to live and work. The harvest is plentiful. Invest yourself today in sewing the seeds of your opportunity knowing the workers are few...not many are doing what you are doing. You will then be bringing new workers to further the quest. A million lives? Perhaps I am thinking too small. Lets go. Lets get the first million and then we can help that million to begin working in the field of harvest. 3 per day is a speck of sand on the beach of the the world.
