Now that you have a clearer picture of what should be done when in order to be the best steward of your time in the business, here is how you can hold yourself accountable. You need to create a tracking sheet to record your activities for each day of the week. This is simple to do, and a very powerful tool because it allows you to see exactly what you are doing, and evaluate and make corrections.
I have posted about this before, but in this one I will be a little more detailed because of it's importance in this concept. I used this idea as a key piece to teaching myself the self-discipline of doing the most important things for building my business. This simple thing was a game changer for me. I created a simple tracking sheet that tracked the most important actions in the business and then each day I recorded every single one of my actions.
If I did nothing that day, then there would be a zero in my columns. I can tell you straight up...it feels really bad to look at your tracking sheet and see a zero! It feels really good to look at your tracking sheet and see all kinds of marks in the columns that matter....so it becomes easy to discipline yourself in doing the right things, because it feels good to do them. Of course, the best part is that after you see a lot of marks in the right columns day after day...you begin seeing substantial growth in your business.
So hear is exactly what should be on your tracking sheet: Across the top should be the seven days of the week all in a row. Moving down the page on the left side from top to bottom should be the things you are going to track:
1. Approaches: Every time you speak to someone and invite them to learn, you place a tic mark in the box. Every day that you work the business you should have at least 3 tic marks in this box. If you are working more than 5 hours a week, you ahould have more than 3 a day.
2. Information: Every time you share the information about your product/business with someone, whether it is in person, or through an info tool...you put a tic mark in the box on the day you did it. The more approaches you are doing, the more tic marks you will have in this box.
3. Follow-ups: This is basic...anytime you talk to someone who is in the process, place a tic mark.
4. Serve: This can be customer service or working with someone in your organization and training or mentoring. You can also make this two separate columns if you want.
5. Sponsor: Any new customer or business builder creates a tic mark for this box. Depending on your system of working you might also make this one two separate columns.
Create a sheet, make copies of it (one sheet will be for one week) and begin tracking your activities. This is a huge step in learning to be accountable for doing the right things in your business daily.
