I started this blog by talking about being the best YOU possible. You have to trust that this is true. Part of this is utilizing the strengths and talents you already have to help you develop your business. I still cringe when I think back years ago and was just finding my way in the business. It was pounded in my head at all levels that whatever I did had to be duplicatable. In other words, if I had some special skill or talent or tool, but no one else could have it, then I shouldn't use it. It took me years to understand how truly ridiculous this idea really is. I'm not going to be someone else in building my business and neither should you.
You must be yourself and you must bring your own strengths to the process. The "process" is the only thing that needs to be duplicated. The "process" is simply the cycle of activities that generate a successful business. Approach, information, follow-up, serve....these are the things that need to be duplicated.
What are your strengths? Are you good with technology? Are you good at writing? Do you listen well? Do you have a knack for easily meeting people? Are you credible? Are you disciplined? Are you creative? Take some time and think about what your true strengths are. Include everything from an inherent strength, to your experiences and knowledge, to skills you've developed, etc. These are the things you want to apply to building your business.
Never try to be someone else. People will see right through it. Be authentically you and if that is not good enough for someone...that is not your problem. This simply means this is not someone you will be doing business with. You do not have to duplicate the way someone else talks or acts to build your business. You don't need the same set of skills and gifts. The beautiful thing about your business is that if you are nice and honest and respectful and you are willing to apply yourself with diligence, you will succeed.
So remember, the only thing that needs to be duplicated is the "process" of the business. Work your strengths in the process and only spend time on weaknesses that get in the way of working the process. `
